Japanese English EDUCATION Department of Surgery, Gastroenterological Surgery HOME Education About medical school Medical Course Gastroenterological Surgery Research Concept Final goal of our department of surgery in Kochi Medical School is to bring up “Academic Surgeon” which means good surgeon with not only excellent surgical skills but also scientific research minds; contribute to surgical patients with better surgical outcomes. Our research concept is to perform translational research with good balance between theory and practice. On the purpose of this achievement, we are trying to do our best “from bench to bedside” and/or “from bedside to bench” at all. As a result, we have been able to publish many English paper more than 250 from Kochi to all over the world in last 10 years. Research topics Based on the aforementioned research concept, we are ongoing to promote surgical research regarding surgical skills and perioperative management, cancer research including current chemotherapy, and revolutionary photodynamic diagnosis (PDD) and photodynamic therapy (PDT) collaborating with Photodynamic Center in Kochi Medical School.
